Most pet brands start with a product and go looking for a supply chain. We started with the supply chain, about forty years before there was a product.
It starts with Don
Don Schaufler began buying and selling antler in the late 1970s. Not as a hobby — as a trade. Over the following decades he became one of the largest antler buyers in the United States, with some years averaging more than 250,000 pounds passing through his hands.
That is a number worth sitting with. Two hundred and fifty thousand pounds of naturally shed antler, in a single year, bought from collectors across the western states.
Then Tony Schaufler
Tony grew up in it. Today he still travels the western states and throughout the Rocky Mountains every year, buying thousands of pounds of fresh antler directly from the people who hike out and find it.
That direct relationship is the whole thing. We are not buying graded antler from a broker who bought it from someone else. Tony knows the collectors. He knows which ground produces good antler and which does not. And because he is buying at the source, we can be certain that what we cut is from this season's shed — which is the single biggest factor in how tough an antler is and how safely it wears down.
Then Jamie
In the spring of 2017, Jamie brought the family antler business to Northwest Indiana and started cutting it for dogs. That is the moment My Antler Dog Chews became a thing rather than an idea.
Since then she has served, educated and supplied shed antler to over 5,000 canines — at the shop in Crown Point, at farmers markets across the region, at trade shows, and through this website.
As a family business, we pride ourselves on our deep industry knowledge, sustainability practices, and most importantly providing healthy, natural treats for your pets.

Fifty years and counting
It did not start as a dog-chew company.
It started as an antler business. The dog chews came later, once we realized we already had the best raw material in the country sitting in our own shop.
