Choosing a cut

Whole, split, or burr?

Same bone, three cuts. The only real difference is how hard your dog has to work to reach the marrow - and that changes everything about how long it lasts.

Side by side

Four cuts, one bone

If your dog gives up on hard chews, start with a split. If your dog has ever destroyed an indestructible toy in an afternoon, start with whole or burr.

Split
Most popular

Split

Cut lengthwise so the marrow is open along the whole length. Your dog gets the reward immediately, and that first taste is usually all it takes.

Whole

Whole

Marrow stays sealed in the center with just the ends exposed. They have to work their way in - which is exactly the point.

Burr
Longest lasting

Burr

The knobbed base where the antler met the skull. Densest, heaviest, most marrow of any cut - and the best shape for paws to hold.

Whitetail deer

Denser than elk, in a smaller and lighter antler. A tough, long-lasting chew that is still easy to carry.

Every antler we sell is the same bone from the same animal. The only difference is how we cut it — and how hard your dog has to work to reach the marrow inside. That one decision changes how long the chew lasts and how much your dog enjoys it.

Split — the easiest place to start

We cut split antler lengthwise down the middle, which exposes the marrow along the entire length. Your dog gets the reward immediately rather than working for it, and that first taste is usually all it takes.

Choose split if: your dog has never had antler before, gives up on hard chews, is a gentler or older chewer, or you simply want them to enjoy it straight away.

Split is our most popular cut, and it is what we hand a first-time customer at the market almost every time.

Whole — for the dog who destroys everything

Whole antler keeps the marrow sealed inside the center. We cut it so at least two marrow sections are exposed at the ends — enough to tell your dog there is something worth getting to — but they have to work their way in.

That is exactly the point. It takes longer, it holds their attention longer, and it lasts considerably longer than a split.

Choose whole if: your dog has ever destroyed an “indestructible” toy in an afternoon, works through chews faster than you can buy them, or you want the longest-lasting option that is still comfortable to hold.

Burr — the densest cut we sell

The burr is the knobbed base of the antler, the part that connected to the animal's skull before it dropped. It is the densest, heaviest piece of the whole antler and it carries the most marrow of any cut.

It is also the best shape for a dog to trap between their paws and settle in with, which is why big dogs love them.

Choose burr if: you have a large, determined dog who works through everything else. Be aware there is only one burr per antler, which is why it costs more and lasts longer.

Whitetail deer — dense and compact

Deer antler is denser than elk. It comes in a smaller, lighter antler, so your dog gets a tough, long-lasting chew that is still easy to carry around.

We cut the tips off each deer antler to open up the marrow, both to entice your dog and for safety.

Choose whitetail if: you want a dense, long-lasting chew in a lighter antler. If your dog is new to antler, start with a split instead — the open marrow is the easiest introduction.

One thing that matters more than the cut

Size. A chew your dog cannot comfortably hold is a chew they will not touch, and one that is too small is a genuine choking risk. Whatever cut you pick, get the size right first.
